Qualifications:

  • Certification as an elementary and/or secondary teacher, meeting the requirements listed in the Louisiana Standards for State certification of school personnel.  Bulletin 746, Part Ill, IV. V, VI, VII. IX and X
  • Minimum requirements as stated in SDE Bulletin 746 (as revised) 
  • Additional criteria as the board may require     
  • Qualifications should not be established for the individual but rather for
    the position.

Essential Duties and Performance Responsibilities:

 

Domain 1: Planning and Preparation         1a: Setting Instructional Outcomes
• Outcomes represent high expectations and rigor related to enrichment lessons.
• Outcomes are related to the “strands” of the Gifted and/or Talented enrichment lessons as stated in the student(s) IEP.
• Outcomes are written in terms of what student(s) will learn rather than do.
• Outcomes represent a range of strands:  critical thinking, problem solving, communication, research, creative thinking, “affectiveness” (social issues), technology, responsibility, and/or interests.
• Outcomes are suitable for student(s) and are differentiated when necessary.
• IEPs are in compliance with state and district requirements.


Domain 2: The Classroom Environment       2a: Managing Classroom Procedures
• Student(s) are productively engaged during work which can be small groups and/or only one student.
• Transitions between activities are smooth.
• Classroom routines function smoothly.

 

 

Domain 3:  Instruction        3a.Using Questioning and Discussion Techniques 

• The teacher uses open-ended enrichment questions inviting student(s) to think, to have multiple, possible answers, and/or to express their thoughts.
• The teacher makes effective use of wait time during the enrichment lesson.
• The teacher builds on or uses student responses to enrichment questions effectively.
• Student(s) are actively engaged in the discussion.
• The teacher has student(s) reflect on what they learned.

 

Domain 4: Instruction         4a: Engaging Students in Learning
• Most student(s) are in engaged in the lesson.
• Learning tasks have multiple, correct responses or approaches and demand higher-order thinking within the topic of enrichment.
• Student(s) have some choice in how they complete learning tasks.
• Materials and resources support the key-enrichment topic and require intellectual engagement as appropriate. (For Gifted Academic Only:  Student(s) activities in advanced vocabulary, higher-order thinking, and cultural literacy are addressed.)
• The pacing of the lesson provides student(s) the time needed to be intellectually and/or artistically engaged.
• The teacher uses enrichment options to extend and/or to deepen learning opportunities.

 

Domain 4: Instruction         4b: Using Assessment in Instruction

• Student(s) indicate that they clearly understand what it is they are to learn.
• The teacher elicits evidence of student understanding during the lesson through means of informally assessing students’(’s) understanding by questioning throughout the enrichment lesson.
• Feedback includes specific and timely guidance for most student(s).
• When necessary, the teacher makes adjustments to the lesson to enhance understanding of student(s).
• Regularly uses and interprets a variety of assessments to evaluate and monitor student needs.

 

Domain 5:  Professionalism

1. The teacher grows and develops through professional development as assigned and voluntarily to improve teaching and learning.

• Attends and constructively participates in meetings and professional development activities.
• Uses active listening skills.
• Accepts and recognizes the value of the contribution of others.

2. The teacher shows professionalism in attitude and conduct
• Develops leadership and responsibility in colleagues and students if applicable.
• Demonstrates skills to receive and give constructive feedback.
• Identifies problems and issues and works collaboratively to contribute ideas and find solutions.
• Maintains communication with immediate supervisor, keeping him/her informed of problems, concerns, and significant developments.
• Uses verbal and non-verbal communication in a respectful manner.
• Writes and speaks clearly and concisely for understanding.
• Develops and maintains a safe and caring environment for students.
• Represents the schools and district in a positive manner.
• Adheres to Lafourche Parish School Board employee dress code.
• Treats all stakeholders in a respectful and helpful manner. 
• Cooperates with administration in the performance of additional duties.
• Cooperates with building and district staff in planning and evaluation.
• Completes tasks, reports, and documents accurately according to specified timelines and expectations.
• Minimizes bias in self and others and accepts responsibility for his/her own actions.
• Adheres to Board policies and procedures and administrative rules, guidelines, and regulations.
• Adheres to district guidelines relative to attendance.  Regularly reports to work on time and works additional hours when deemed necessary.
• Adheres to ethical, legal and professional standards.
• Applies laws, policies, regulations, and procedures fairly, consistently, wisely, and compassionately.
• Follows directives as assigned by supervisor.
• Refrains from revealing confidential information.
• Uses proper administrative procedures for making requests and resolving conflicts.

METHOD OF EVALUATION
The combination of the applicable measure of growth in student learning and the qualitative assessment of performance competencies and standards shall result in a composite score used to distinguish levels of overall effectiveness.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus.
