Speech-Language Pathologist (9 Month Position)
- Individual must hold a valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate, meeting the requirements listed in the Louisiana Standards for State certification of school personnel, Bulletin 746 (revised)
- Certification requirements for speech, language, and hearing specialist as outlined in Bulletin 746
- Minimum requirements as stated in SDE Bulletin 746 (as revised)
- Training and experience appropriate to the position
- Qualifications should not be established for the individual but rather for the position
I. PLANNING
1. collaborates with other speech therapists at each assigned school in selecting caseload for the year;
2. plans therapy program for those children in the assigned caseload;
3. incorporates speech/language response to intervention program into weekly schedule as assigned;
4. develops lesson plans in accordance with school procedures/district policy.
II. CLINICAL SKILLS
1. screens students referred by the RtI Team or SBLC for speech and language concerns;
2. administers diagnostic tests in the areas of speech, language;
3. accurately reports all assessment findings and make appropriate recommendations based on same;
4. implements therapy programs according to IEP specifications;
5. appropriately dismisses students as needed.
III. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
1. participates in planned professional growth activities;
2. attends appropriate school and/or speech/language in-service meetings in order to maintain state licensure.
IV. POLICY IMPLEMENTATION
1. performs such tasks and duties as assigned by the superintendent and/or/his/her designee;
2. enforces school-wide disciplinary procedures during the therapy session.
V. INSTRUCTION
1. uses techniques(s) which develop(s) lesson objective(s);
2. adjusts lessons when appropriate;
3. integrates technology into instruction when appropriate;
4. accommodates individual differences when appropriate;
5. demonstrates ability to communicate effectively with students;
6. encourages student participation;
7. monitors ongoing performance of students;
8. provides materials for home practice when necessary.
VI. SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT
1. serves on task forces and decision making committees when appropriate;
2. assists in implementation for school improvement plan;
VII.MANAGEMENT
1. refers children needing additional services to appropriate resource person(s);
2. submits required program data/documents to Pupil Appraisal in a timely manner;
3. updates IEP annually.
VIII. COMMUNICATION AND COMMUNITY RELATIONS
1. provides clear and timely information to parent/caregivers and colleagues regarding classroom expectations, student progress, and ways they can assist learning;
2. encourages parent/caregivers to become active partners in their children’s speech/language communication.

METHOD OF EVALUATION The combination of the applicable measure of growth in student learning and the qualitative assessment of performance competencies and standards shall result in a composite score used to distinguish levels of overall effectiveness.
